Copyright and Digital Library Webinar with UANIPIO (Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations)
University library employees explored the topic of copyright compliance during the webinar titled “How to Create a Digital Library and Not Infringe Copyright?”. The webinar was held on March 14 with the support of the Academy of Intellectual Property, UANIPIO (Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations), and the Association of Ukrainian Editors.
Representatives from libraries across Ukraine had the opportunity to address their questions to copyright and intellectual property experts regarding the creation and use of electronic documents in their work.
The experts who provided professional insights included:
- Dmytro Doroshenko, Head of the Department for the Development of Creative Sectors of Economy at the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations.
- Olga Kulinich, Head of the “Academy of Intellectual Property” Department at the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations
The discussion focused on several key issues:
- Work for hire: property rights and copyright, as well as the legal relationship between the author and the institution. Under what conditions can a work be considered an official work?
- The importance of avoiding vague citations such as “borrowed from the Internet” or “from free sources.”
- Digitization for preservation purposes and providing access to digitized documents for educational use.
- Conditions for placing research papers and students’ qualification works in repositories.
- The role of the compiler and their creative contribution.
