Scientific and Practical Seminar "Rules and Methods of Document Indexing According to the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC)"

On April 15, staff members of the Department of Scientific Document Processing and Catalog Organization of the M. Maksymovych Scientific Library at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv participated in the scientific and practical seminar “Rules and Methods of Document Indexing According to the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC)”, held in a hybrid format — both offline and online.

The event was organized by the Ivan Fedorov, Book Chamber of Ukraine in cooperation with the Maksym Rylsky, Irpin City Public Library.

The seminar was conducted by Valentyna Muraviova, Head of the Department of Classification Systems, and Viktoriia Solodovnyk, Senior Researcher of the same department at the Book Chamber of Ukraine.

Participants had the opportunity to:

  • familiarize themselves with current approaches to indexing documents using the Universal Decimal Classification;
  • discuss practical aspects, ask questions, and exchange experiences with colleagues from other institutions.

Such events are an important component of professional development, contributing to the implementation of unified standards in library science and improving the quality of library and information services.

At the end of the seminar, all participants received certificates confirming their participation in the event.

It should be noted that since 2017, all libraries in Ukraine have transitioned from the Soviet BBK system to the international UDC system, which is used in more than 130 countries around the world.
