Restoration of a number of publications from our collection of rare and valuable old printed books

The M. Maksymovych Scientific Library at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is pleased to share important news with its colleagues, friends, and readers! For the first time in the history of our collection of old, rare, and valuable books, which is included in the State Register of Scientific Objects of National Heritage, a number of its most valuable editions have been restored.

Among the restored books is the oldest document kept in the library: a collection of two Venetian editions of “The Twelve Caesars” by Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus (1500) and “The Genealogy of the Gods” by Giovanni Boccaccio (1497).

We sincerely thank the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the management of the University (Volodymyr Bugrov, Hanna Tolstanova) for their financial support and organisational assistance in carrying out the restoration, as well as the specialists of the Centre for Conservation and Restoration of the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine for their excellent professional work!
