ONLINE LECTURE BY RMU AT THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE
No. 39 ‘Open Access Journals: Issues of Selection and Indexing’

The M. Maksymovych Scientific Library is once again among the participants of the online lecture series of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science. On 13 September, the director of the Library, Marina Zhenchenko, gave a lecture. And on 5 October 2025, Olena Gerasimova, acting deputy director for scientific work and international relations, gave a lecture on ‘Open access journals: issues of selection and indexing’.

During her presentation, the speaker examined the issue of open access journals from two perspectives: that of the journal editor and that of the author. This perspective allows us to view indexing criteria as a tool for ensuring good publishing practices. Among the open access journal databases presented were DOAJ and PubMed Central.

Since the Maksymovych Scientific Library is involved in the indexing of scientific journals of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in DOAJ, part of the presentation focused on the main criteria of this index:

  • Review process
  • Copyright compliance policy
  • Licensing terms
  • Archiving policy

The lecture also summarised how open access journal indexes differ from the well-known Scopus and WoS.

The recording of the event is available at the link: Facebook Watch.
